A New Line…A New Day

I love standing in line at Disney World. I know that sounds weird, but think about it. Every new line is a new opportunity to reinvent yourself for the people standing in line next to you (you know they’re listening).

In some lines, I’ll throw out my Mickey voice. I’ll say something like, “Oh, boy!” I imagine the little kids around me whispering to their parents, “Mommy I think that’s the guy who really does Mickey’s voice.” Sometimes I’ll pretend to be from another country. My kiddos and I will speak in some made-up foreign language. I imagine the people around us are wondering, “Is that french or Spanish?” Sometimes I’ll be rich and talk about my yacht stuck in the Panama Canal or maybe I’ll be a professional Fortnite player, or retired NFL punter…. The possibilities are endless!

New line = New identity potential.

I was thinking about this yesterday. You see, yesterday was my first day at a new job. I don’t really like first days, but I do like the opportunity they present. The opportunity of who I’m going to “be” at this new job is endless! That’s exciting to me.

What if we viewed every day like that? Even if it’s your 1521 day at your job or even if your job now is simply to be a neighbor. It’s so easy to get in a rut in your job, your relationships, or even just in life. Today is a chance to be different though. Today is a chance to move the needle 1%.

As you think about who to be today, take a look at this proverb.

“Commit your work to the LORD and your plans will be established.” Prov. 16:3

Easy to say, but what does that mean? How do we know when we are doing that?

I don’t really know the answer to those questions, but I do know what a life or job committed to the LORD will produce. It will produce things like love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. When you look at that list, is there some area you need a fresh start on? I know there is for me.

Man, so much of my life has been dedicated to chasing things like money, success, and titles. When I get blinded by those things, my life produces the opposite of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.

Are you there today?

What would chasing love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control look like in your job, relationships, or your community today look like?

Let’s get up today….and go in a new “line” of life. It’s a fresh start and a fresh chance to chase something different.
