My favorite band has a message…
I was listening to my favorite band of all time NEEDTOBREATHE last night. Their song, “That’s what I’m here for” came on and the lyrics hit a little different. The song plays out as kind of a reflection of the different pressures of life. It talks about the pressure of fame, jealousy, perfection, pride, mistakes etc.. You should go listen to it. Actually, you should go listen to all their songs!
I love the lyrics in the middle. They say, “If we knocked on heaven’s door
I’d say, ‘God, I’m only human.’ You’d say, ‘That’s what I’m here for.’”
Imagine that interaction with God.
You: God, I just can’t. I fail all the time. I have too much on my plate. I let people down. I let you down, God. I feel overwhelmed…I’m only human.
God: That’s what I’m here for.
To me, that’s freeing!
I don’t know what’s going on in your life today. Maybe you look at what is on your plate of life and think to yourself, “What the heck. This is too much. I’m only human. I can’t handle this.”
Think about these words from Jesus, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
Growth is recognizing you are only human and your neighbor is only human. We are just messy humans trying our best in life.
Growth is recognizing that because you aren’t perfect and you don’t have unlimited resources, you can’t do this thing alone. It’s seeing the pain and choosing to experience in a healthy way.
Man, life can be a lot. Do me a favor, take a deep breath, and repeat those words from Jesus over your life.
“Come to me…I will give you rest. It’s what I’m here for.”
You. Are. Not. Alone.
